The Dining Room
This is the largest room in the house and was formerly the Great Hall of the Castle in the 16th century. At that time there
would have been a high table on a raised dias for the laird and his lady, while those ' below the salt ' would
have sat at one long table running the length of the room.

In 1850, the room was redesigned and panelled in American pine. The magnificent fireplace, with the coats of arms of the
Macphersons and the Grants, was erected then also. The paintings of King George III and Queen Charlotte by Allan Ramsay were
presented to General James Grant in recognition of his military service in the
American Wars of Independence. The silver cups were won by Sir George Macpherson-Grant for his world famous Aberdeen Angus cattle.
